In-House Catering vs. Outside Vendors

Weighing a venue's in-house catering against bringing in an outside caterer — cost, flexibility, and quality tradeoffs.

Most venues push their in-house catering hard, and there are real reasons to consider it — but it's not automatically the right or cheaper choice.

In-house: the case for it

Simpler logistics (one vendor, one point of contact for both venue and food), often bundled pricing that can work out cheaper than it looks separately, and the catering team already knows the space's kitchen and service flow.

Outside caterers: the case for it

More menu flexibility, particularly for specific regional cuisines or dietary requirements the in-house team may not specialize in, and the ability to shop quotes competitively rather than accepting a single bundled number.

The question to actually ask

Whether the venue allows outside catering at all, and if so, whether there's a per-plate outside-vendor fee that erodes the savings. This varies enormously between venues and is worth confirming before falling in love with either the venue or a specific caterer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do all Bengaluru venues allow outside catering?

No — many restrict it entirely or charge a significant outside-vendor fee. This is one of the first questions to ask on any venue tour, before it becomes a late-stage surprise.

Is bundled venue-and-catering pricing usually a good deal?

Sometimes, but it's worth getting an itemized breakdown to compare against an outside caterer's quote for the same menu and guest count rather than accepting the bundle at face value.
